Aliki Rigou | “Akrasia” – Solo Exhibition of Mosaic and Painting

Visual artist Aliki Rigou presents her solo exhibition “Akrasia” at the Chili Art Gallery and invites us to the opening reception on Thursday, December 14, at 19:00. In her latest exhibition, she presents a cohesive collection of unique mosaic works, as well as paintings and drawings that sketch a journey into the explorations of the human soul. The exhibition is curated by Paris Kapralos.

Mr. Kapralos notes: “Through painting, drawings, watercolors, and mosaics, Aliki Rigou mobilizes us in a constant quest for truth behind our personal and collective experiences. Her representational works call upon us to recognize familiar forms and seek the essence within apparent reality. In her more abstract pieces, she invites us to delve into our inner nature and interpret the world through our mental understanding. Lastly, her non-representational works, with an almost mystical disposition, reveal the boundless complexity of existence and initiate an intuitive dialogue with us. […] The works in the ‘Akrasia’ exhibition invite us into an emotionally charged yet conscious immersion into the depths of the soul and philosophy. ‘Akrasia,’ a word that Aristotle placed at the center of his ethical thinking, describes a state where an individual, although aware of what is right, chooses a different path, yielding to impulsive desires. In the modern experience, this concept resonates with our inability to follow the path leading to self-realization, while the pursuit of meaning in life constantly clashes with the inevitable prospect of death. The works in the exhibition can be seen as symbols of this tension, expressing the struggle for moral coherence in a world that often challenges us to abandon our ideals.

The exhibition runs from December 14, 2023, to January 6, 2024. Starting from the day after the opening, it will also be available online through the ARTgrID platform (https://artgrid.gr).

A catalog for the exhibition has been published in both Greek and English languages and is available to all visitors free of charge.
